Always a human at the helm: Updated around-the-clock by Capital Weather meteorologists.

Happening now: Partly to mostly cloudy tonight. An isolated shower or thundershower is possible this evening, with a better shot toward sunrise. Lows 65 to 70.

What’s next? Humidity roars back tomorrow with showers likely and storms possible. Heating up into the 90s Thursday and Friday with icky humidity and some strong storms possible.

Forecast in detail

Tonight: Mostly cloudy with increasing humidity and an isolated shower or rumble possible, until a better chance of a few showers or a storm after 4 a.m. or so. Lows only dip into the upper 60s to near 70. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Wednesday): Mostly cloudy but a touch warmer today with highs in the mid- to upper 80s and high humidity (dew points rising to the low 70s). Showers are possible during the morning until about 11 a.m. Then we could see scattered showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon into evening, especially between 2 and 7 p.m. (check back for timing adjustments). Some storms could be strong – needed downpours are possible, but those look quite hit or miss. Winds are from the southwest at 10 to 15 mph. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: Mostly cloudy and muggy with still a chance of scattered showers or a thunderstorm into the evening, but most of the night should be dry with lows in the muggy 70s. Confidence: Medium

A look ahead

Thursday and Friday are a pair of partly to mostly sunny hot peppers, with highs at least in the low to mid-90s, and the heat index potentially peaking near 100. We have a chance of showers and storms both afternoons into evenings. Some storms could be strong to severe, particularly with gusty winds. Lows in the 70s Thursday night, then cooler 60s for lows Friday night. Confidence: Medium

The weekend is looking better with partly to mostly sunny skies and lowering humidity (dew points falling into the low 60s) even as highs lift into the upper 80s to near 90. There is a low chance for a shower or storm Sunday afternoon or evening. Partly cloudy Saturday night with upper 50s to mid-60s for lows. Confidence: Medium

There is some rain potential early next week, but it's too soon to get into details. It doesn't look quite as hot with highs in the 80s.

Today’s daily digit — 8/10: An eight is still great with low humidity and comfortable warmth, but we would love to see a higher sun-to-cloud ratio. | 🤚 Your call?
